Dryland water safety.

On Thursday the 14th a guy named Caleb came into our classroom.  He was teaching us about how to be safe while in the water. And what are the important things to bring while you go down to the beach?

He was talking about the important things we would be needing if we wanted to go down to the beach. The first important one was sunblock, sun hat, togs, towel, snacks/food, water bottle and if you're on a boat you could use a life jacket too. But first, let's talk about why we need to bring these things and why it's so important?

First sunblock. you could get a very bad sunburn if you don't wear sunblock while your down at the beach. Next, you need a sunhat or just a hat it doesn't really matter. Because you may get sunburnt without having a hat on top of your head. Thirdly It is quite important to wear togs while you're down at the beach just because if you wear regular clothes the ocean might ruin them, but that's my opinion.
Fourthly, maybe if you're going down to the beach and collecting pipis or mussles you could at least bring some snacks if you're going to be down for a while.  Or you could just grab some snacks if you're going down with your whanau. Lastly, make sure to get some water so you don't get dehydrated because it's really important to have a fresh cool off.

Now moving onto the water safety. Caleb was teaching us what to do if we got stuck in a rip. The three important things to do while stuck in a rip is... Stay calm, lay on your back, and raise your hand up.
The reason why you need to do this is that if you don't stay calm then you'll lose more of your energy and that you will start to get tired and that's how others drown.

If you go on boat trips just make sure that you wear a lifejacket it's really important! Just because if the boat flips and you fall down you won't drown because you have a lifejacket on.

In conclusion, it was really fun to talk with Caleb and that now I know what to do when I get stuck in a rip. And that I always have to put on sunblock whenever it's hot outside and I want to cool off at the beach.
